When they are in the wild, hamsters do a lot of running. A reason to this is because their size makes them very vulnerable to predators. Hamsters travel miles every night in search for food. When you own a pet hamster, you should not deprive it from doing what it does best.
Aside from running being a good exercise for them, it is also a way for them to fight boredom while being held inside small cages. Hamsters do so much running even in their cages on
exercise wheels that it has been reported that they can go as far as 8 kilometers every night. There are so many ways that you can exercise you pet. You can even join in the activity and get yourself to exercise as well!
Running Ball
You can put your pet inside a hamster running ball to give it a break from its restrictive cage. A hamster ball will allow you to let your hamster run and explore a much bigger and open space. There are so many kinds of hamster balls that you can purchase in the market today, each of them with varying designs and sizes. Make sure that you pick the most appropriate one for your pet. When you let the hamster run wild in an open area, make sure that you initially get rid of any potential hazards that it might get into. Keep away your pet dog or cat for the meantime. Let your pet run on flat and smooth surfaces since the hamster ball will better roll on them.
Animal Fence
Installing an animal fence for you hamster is also a good way to provide your pet the exercise that it needs. Just like the hamster balls, there are also a number of fences in varying styles and sizes available in pet stores. This mini playground can be placed anywhere – outside on the lawn, on the floor inside the house, or even on top of the carpet. Purchase miniature see-saws, tubes, miniature furniture, and any other toys that you can place inside the fence. It is bound to become a good place for your hamster to play and explore in.
Hamster Wheel
Placing a running wheel inside the cages of your hamster is considered to be the most standard option for many owners. In fact, this is one of the most important things that you should also buy along with the purchase of a hamster. This should come in handy during night when you put them back into their cages after running and playing around in their balls and fences. Remember that hamsters are nocturnal animals so they might need these wheels for those night work out sessions. There are so many styles of hamster wheels today.
After your exercises with your pet, never forget to give them some treats to serve as positive enforcement. They would love to eat baby carrots, spinach, mealworms, and peanut. Make sure, though that, you do not do this too often as too much treats can also add unnecessary fats to their small frames.
